Jettison

Jettison Oak Cliff Dallas

Behind Houndstooth Coffee in Oak Cliff, Jettison serves high-quality cocktails in a cozy setting

Located behind Houndstooth Coffee in Oak Cliff, Jettison offers high-quality cocktails in a cozy setting. Jazz music consistently fills the space, which concentrates on quality over price when it comes to drinks as well as the cheese and charcuterie board.

Please describe Jettison as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

This is a small bar tucked in past the hallways from a coffee shop (Houndstooth Coffee). After you check in with our staff, you will be seated with a menu and water. The space is cozy and comforting. Soft music is played (a little upbeat on weekends but never loud). The space is fully controlled so it will never be uncomfortable to bring a first-time date or even your grandparents.

Cocktail menu is online and it’s picture driven. You click the picture of the cocktail and then the descriptions will show. We add extra information if there are some ingredients that are not so common.

How would you describe Jettison in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Quality Driven Cocktails

Other than Jettison, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

We are in a neighborhood called “Sylvan Thirty”. It’s in a complex that has a Grocery store, a coffee shop (same company as us), salons, and restaurants with authentic cuisine (ex: French crepes, standing room only Ramen, and neapolitan pizza). All true styles to their origin. None are “Americanized”.

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

We don’t have a Happy Hour. Customers come for quality cocktails not for cheap.

We are reservation based, so as long as you make a reservation, any time is a good time to come. We do accept walk-ins, but we highly control our intake so whoever comes in will be served well.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

Our clientele is mostly local people and regulars. We do get people visiting from out of town looking for cocktails or Speakeasy-vibe bars.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

Our menu is on a QR code, but it’s actually our website. I format its picture-base to make it look like a photo library on Instagram. (3 rows of pictures and a few columns). Customers can click on the photo to get more information like ingredients and a little Tip.

For example, this Santo Humo cocktail comes with a glass smoked with Palo Santo smoke, we add a tip of what Palos Santo is.

How much do drinks cost?

Most drinks range $13~16. A few are around $18 if we use fancy ingredients. The most expensive is $26 (top shelf Manhattan with my name on it “George Jettison”).

Is there anything to eat?  If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?

Just snacks, we have a charcuterie board with very high quality meats and cheeses.

What are the distinguishing features of Jettison?

Jokingly stating this, but we do things opposite of what a bar would do that makes money. Two examples: We don’t carry vodka (never did since we opened in 2016) and we limit our seating (reservation based + controlled customer intake). There are many other small examples, but all of which are aimed to achieve “Best Cocktail Experience” .

What’s that music we hear playing on the Jettison stereo?

Tuesday is vinyl night. We play vinyl records of Classic Jazz & Bossa Nova to start the night, and if the mood gets up, it might go up to Disco and New-Age.

Wednesday we feature Mezcals, so Latin music like Boleros and Buena Vista Social Club is common.

Thursday is typically chill. Brazilian Folk like Seu Jorge, Chet Baker and similar mellow Jazz.

Friday & Saturdays : If we stay with Jazz, we will do Upbeat and funky like Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Jazz Fusions that are more complex. Jazz & Beats/LowFi like Nujabes. My staff’s recent favorite is Khruangbin (Psychedelic Instrumental Rock band from Houston).Occasionally Funk/Disco like James Brown and Chic.
