Texas Whiskey Maker Still Austin Have Unveiled The Latest Addition To Its Distillery Reserve Series, Ruby Red Port Barrel Finished Straight Rye
Still Austin has teamed up with writer Stacey Swann to launch the latest addition to its Distillery Reserve Series, Ruby Red Port Barrel Finished Straight Rye. This is the 13th release in the celebrated collection.
The Ruby Red Port Barrel Finished Straight Rye is a 100% rye whiskey. First aged for four years in American bourbon barrels, the drink is then finished for eight months in Ruby Red Port barrels.
On the nose, the whiskey offers aromas of dried dates, cannoli, cherry pie ala mode, spiced cranberry jam and mulled wine. The palate finds chocolate-covered raisins, blueberry pancakes, fresh clove, pumpernickel toast and fig, whereas the finish features cinnamon, cocoa powder, & stewed wild berries, along with deep dessert wine notes.
Each of the few hundred bottles in this release feature words from writer Stacey Swann, and each hand-written label contains a fragment of her story “Good Chaos.” Swann’s debut novel Olympus, Texas was a Good Morning America Book Club selection, an Indie Next Pick, and was long-listed for The Center for Fiction First Novel Prize.
Bottled at 108 Proof (54% ABV), the Ruby Red Port Barrel Finished Straight Rye is priced for retail at $100. Bottles will be available to purchase online on Monday, April 15th starting at 1:00 PM CT and are distillery pick-up only. Bottles will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis (limited to one bottle per person). Last year, Still Austin unveiled Red Corn Bourbon. The bottled in bond whiskey features a unique mashbill containing, as you could have guessed, red corn.
