The 2024 Edition of the annual Lagavulin Jazz whisky features the brand’s signatures smoke balanced by rich, fruity flavors from South African Cabernet Sauvignon Cask
Lagavulin has unveiled the 2024 edition of its annual Islay Jazz Festival whisky. This year’s edition is a 14 Year Old bottling that’s been finished in South African Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks. The 2023 Jazz Edition was a 15-year-old single malt finished in Oloroso Sherry casks.
The Lagavulin Jazz 2024 release’s unique cask finish imparts a creamy-smooth texture and sweet initial taste, balanced by saltiness and Lagavulin’s smoky character. It is described as an intense, powerful, and deep liquid. Whisky writer Charles MacLean describes it as “an exciting example of Lagavulin, slightly sweeter than regular bottlings, but with good distillery character.”
“Lagavulin Jazz Festival has been a highlight for Islay residents and fans around the globe and we’re very excited to celebrate this moment with such a special bottling,” says Jordan Paisley, Lagavulin Distillery Manager. “This is a rich complex Lagavulin with dark and tropical flavours that add a new layer to our much loved signature smoke. ”
Starting on September 20th, the iconic Lagavulin Jazz Festival returns for a blend of world-class jazz, exquisite whisky, and Scottish scenery. This year’s festival features an impressive line-up of musicians and special guests, making it an unmissable event for jazz and Scotch enthusiasts alike.
This year’s festival line-up includes jazz legends and emerging talents such as pianist Paul Harrison, saxophonist Helena Kay, vocalist Laura Oghagbon, and the Islay Jazz Festival icon Laura Macdonald. Lagavulin will be hosting two All That Jazz tastings on September 21st, in which guests will enjoy a tasting of five rare expressions of Lagavulin including some long sold out gems, each paired with a music track to match the flavor of the whisky.
Bottled at 56.1% ABV, the Lagavulin Jazz 2024 bottling will be available for purchase at the Distillery during the festival and a small allocation via malts.com after the festival. It has a retail price of £240 per 70cl bottle and only 1,500 bottles will be made available for purchase.
In May, Lagavulin released two limited-edition offerings for the 2024 Fèis Ìle festival, the 29-Year-Old Skies of Fèis Ìle as well as the Fèis Ìle 2024 10-Year-Old.
