Kilchoman Unveils Madeira Cask Matured Whisky

Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured

Kilchoman has unveiled the Madeira Cask Matured limited edition whisky. Only 17,000 bottles of the expression will be made available.

The Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured limited edition was distilled in May 2016 and matured for 5 years and 3 months in 46 fresh madeira hogsheads, before being bottled at 50% ABV in August 2021. The distillery had planned to release the Scotch in late 2021, however, a bottle shortage meant that it was delayed. Now, the wait is over and the Madeira Cask Matured will be available from Kilchoman stockist around the world.

“Kilchoman really lends itself to maturation in fortified wine casks,” said Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder. “The rich fruity character of the casks balances nicely with the creamy citrus sweetness of our new spirit. My preference when using wine casks has always been to use fresh first fill barrels with a view to bottling the whisky relatively young. This approach means the lighter clean flavours and the fresh maritime peat smoke isn’t overwhelmed by the cask influence.”

On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of caramel, orange zest, and ripe plums, plus various spices and lots of smoke. The palate delivers lemon zest with peach notes, raisins, walnuts, dark chocolate, and nicely integrated smoke. The finish features juicy fortified wine, burnt sugar, dark fruit, billowing smoke, and Christmas cake.

The Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured will not be available from the brand’s website. However, it will be able to get a bottle through the brand’s usual distribution partners around the world. For worldwide and UK distribution information, head to the official website.

In December, Kilchoman unveiled its 2021 Club Release, which wass available exclusively to the Islay brand’s Club Members.
