Speyside’s The GlenAllachie Distillery has unveiled the second release in its ambitious Sinteis Series, a collection that explores the alchemy of dual maturation. Part II, distilled in 2015 and bottled at cask strength, pairs the rare character of Scottish virgin oak with the depth of oloroso Sherry casks, creating a whisky that master distiller Billy Walker describes as “both adventurous and reassuringly timeless.”
Two Casks, One Synthesis
First introduced in April 2025, the Sinteis Series takes its name from the Scottish Gaelic word for synthesis and carries the tagline: “Two distinct casks. One harmonious synthesis.” Each release is an experiment in wood, aimed at discovering what emerges when contrasting cask styles are brought together in dialogue rather than opposition.
Walker, who has spent decades reshaping the Speyside landscape, frames the series as an exploration of whisky-making creativity: “The Sinteis Series is a celebration of creativity at the very heart of whisky making, a chance to explore how different casks, when thoughtfully combined, can create something truly remarkable.”
The Whisky: The GlenAllachie Sinteis Part II
Sinteis Part II was distilled in 2015 and matured in two distinct environments: Scottish virgin oak—an unusual and bold choice—and oloroso Sherry casks, long celebrated for their ability to impart richness and spice. Bottled at a robust 58.2% ABV, this single malt layers intensity with elegance.
On the nose, the whisky offers mocha, grilled honeycomb, berries, cinnamon butter, and toasted lemon peel. The palate reveals heather honey, citrus brightness, baking spices, gingersnaps, and poached orchard fruits. The virgin oak brings vanilla sweetness, honeycomb depth, and mocha undertones, while the oloroso casks contribute warmth, spice, and luscious fruit character.
“In Part II, I wanted to shine a light on Scottish virgin oak—a rare and distinctive choice in maturation,” Walker explained. “By pairing its bold personality with the familiar depth of oloroso Sherry, I wanted to craft a whisky that speaks to both curiosity and comfort.”
Presentation and Availability
Sinteis Part II arrives in packaging designed by Scottish artist Kayley Barbour, reflecting the merging of multiple wood types at the heart of the whisky. The bottle was officially launched at The GlenAllachie Distillery and on its website on August 21, 2025, with wider global availability expected in the weeks ahead.
For The GlenAllachie, the Sinteis Series represents not just another release, but a statement of intent. Under Walker’s guidance, the distillery has become known for pushing the boundaries of Speyside whisky, while maintaining respect for the traditions that made it possible.
A Distillery in Transition
Earlier this month, The GlenAllachie also announced a major step in sustainability: a plan to reduce its energy use by more than 50% through the installation of pioneering new technology, described as “first-of-its-kind” in the Scotch whisky industry. The dual focus—on innovation in both flavor and environmental responsibility—positions GlenAllachie as a distillery looking as much to the future as to its heritage.
With Sinteis Part II, the brand delivers a whisky that honors duality in every sense: wood and fire, old and new, curiosity and comfort.
