Gin Rummy

Gin Rummy - Los Angeles

If you’re looking for a tropical escape from the usual Venice crowd, head over to Gin Rummy for groovy vibes and boozy tiki drinks

Along the border of Venice and Marina del Rey, Gin Rummy offers groovy dance vibes within a tropical escape. The former Sunny Spot space features an indoor/outdoor patio along with fresh perspectives on classic tiki drinks. Dishes like Coconut Shrimp with Thai Chili Sauce can be ordered alongside frozen daiquiris or margaritas or scorpion bowls for the entire group.

The team tells us…

Please describe Gin Rummy as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

Walking through the doors of Gin Rummy is like walking directly into a tropical escape with all of your friends sipping tropical cocktails all the while hearing and feeling the most electric vibes being curated by DJ’s of all genres.

How would you describe Gin Rummy in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Let’s get Tiki’d!!

Other than Gin Rummy, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

Gin Rummy is the gateway to Venice, once you’re here, you’ll rarely want to venture off this exotic island, especially with The Little Friend being just down the hallway; however, Venice is ripe with all sorts of indulgent cocktail/dance exclusive playgrounds. The Brig boasts Venice’s largest outdoor patio; The Lincoln rivals Gin Rummy, somewhat with its dance vibes, and The Roosterfish sets its mark with its fantastic cocktail program.

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

Be in the door by 10pm to secure your spot along the sides of our lush garden patio.  The DJ will have just started on what will be your next 4 hours of non-stop music curated to make sure the dancing doesn’t stop until the lights come up.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

Exoctic, Curious, Selective are a couple adjectives that come to mind when we look across the bar at our guests. Our main focus is to awaken the flavors in all of our cocktails and in doing that, bring out the party in our guests.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

Our menu brings a fresh perspective on Tiki Drinks with classics like Pina Coladas, Jungle Bird, PainKiller, and even a Scorpion Bowl that are stacked with all manners of vodka, gin, and rum with fresh juices.  We even have our creative version of classics like a Banana Manhattan and a Corpse Reviver No 47 in our Stirred or Shaken menu section. Forzens?? Yep, our menu boasts four types of Daiquiris and three types of margaritas.

What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?

The Walking Dead – A nod to the original tiki cocktail the Zombie, this delicious drink includes 3 different types of agave spirits balanced to perfection with fresh fruit juices and warm cinnamon & vanilla spice.

How much do drinks cost?

$11-18 for single serving drinks, but we do offer large format drinks for groups from $60-65

Is there anything to eat?  If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?

One of our dishes that leans heavily into the Tiki theme is our Coconut Shrimp served with Thai Chili Sauce.

What are the distinguishing features of Gin Rummy?

Large skylights over the bar set the tone during our Happy Hours, while outside our indoor/outdoor patio gives a sandy, beachy feel complete with large oak tables painted with game boards, including checkers, chess, and backgammon. Once night time fully hits one entire wall is illuminated with a row of vintage island-themed pinball machines. Guests can sit below giant redwood beams all the while sipping exotic drinks from our funky selection of glassware.

What’s that music we hear playing on the Gin Rummy stereo?

We work diligently on recruiting and hiring only the best DJ’s of both the westside and the City of Los Angeles. Weekend nights are mostly filled with a style of House Disco that can’t be found at any other bar on the Westside. Nightly our playlists range anywhere from Groovy hits of the 80’s to New Wave Soul, all meant to compliment the feelings one would experience while on “Island Time.”
