Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado Pays Smoky Tribute to Mexico’s Agave Heritage

Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado

There’s smoke on the horizon—rising not from a distant fire, but from the slow-burning heart of Los Altos de Jalisco. Clase Azul México, the brand synonymous with sculptural decanters and luxury sipping rituals, has just released its latest small-batch icon: Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado. And it’s not just a new tequila—it’s a reverent return to the roots, quite literally.

Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco, the woman behind this bold and aromatic new expression, didn’t set out to replicate mezcal. Instead, she aimed for something more elusive: a smoky tequila that sings in the key of tradition, yet still sounds unmistakably like Clase Azul. “I set out to capture the essence of traditional mezcal-making,” she says, “reinterpreting each stage of the process to elevate the unique character of the blue agave—but this time through a deliberate act.”

The act in question? A throwback to ancestral cooking techniques, where mature agave piñas are slow-roasted in earthen ovens—fueled by firewood and volcanic rock, buried in the ground like secrets. This centuries-old method, revived with precision, imparts the Blanco Ahumado with a gentle smokiness, more whisper than shout. Think orchard fruit—plum, red apple, even a flicker of fresh lemon—wrapped in soft smoke, carried on a silky texture that stays long after the sip.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Clase Azul without its signature presentation. The Blanco Ahumado arrives in a semi-transparent decanter that evokes both the foggy tendrils of smoke and the volcanic terrain that nurtured the agave. A copper-toned emblem and matching cap crown the bottle, subtle nods to the traditional tools and heat used in its creation.

This new expression not only honors the landscape from which it comes, but expands Clase Azul’s growing legacy as a curator of Mexican terroir—where each sip becomes a tasting ritual, each bottle a sculptural ode to craftsmanship.

Clase Azul Tequila Blanco Ahumado is now available via the brand’s website and select retailers. As with all their spirits, this one’s best enjoyed slowly, like watching smoke rise into the Jalisco dusk.
