Bar Moruno

Bar Moruno 2

Silver Lake’s go-to spot for Spanish-inspired food and drink, Bar Moruno doles out tinned fish and other elevated Iberian classics alongside creative cocktails and the type of wines you’d expect to be paired with such dishes. There are lists for both martinis and gin tonics as well as a variety of vermouth and sherries on offer. Colorful splashes and out-of-order Rolling Stones tunes make you believe you’re in Gracia, even if the prices don’t.

What’s the crowd like?
A mix of Silver Lake’s current Sunset Boulevard crowd and those who want to drink alongside the not-actual Eastside’s trendy, creative set. Think Williamsburg west: Pleasant young creative professionals, a few too many hats and as much fashion inspiration as cringe. The staff is some of the city’s best.

What am I drinking?
Gin, vermouth, sherry. They mix up some of the best martinis in Los Angeles–our favorite is the Salmon–and have one of the wider lists of Spanish wines you’ll find this side of Sunset.

Is there anything to eat?
The food here is one of its main pulls. The conservas are wonderful–if pricey–and so is the pan con tomate, but if you’re looking for the real deal opt for the Spinach and Chickpeas. The Chorizo Scotch Egg is also worth the waistline splurge.

When should I get here?
Bar Moruno tends to fill up quickly, so come early. It’s the perfect place for a couple of drinks and a light bite before heading for wilder plans.

Why am I here?
To feel like you’re in Barcelona while sipping martinis and downing conservas without having to leave the comfort of Los Angeles’ trendiest strip.
