Bar Deco sits in Indre By in the heart of Copenhagen and offers everything from cocktails, wine, and beer to coffee, snacks, and even a selection of non-alcoholic drinks.

Just steps from Nyhavn Canal and its brightly colored 17th and early 18th century townhouses, bar Deco delivers elevated drinks alongside a relaxed atmosphere. The space opened in 2019 and was named the city’s best cocktail bar the very same year. The current menu reimagines classic cocktails, introducing modern flavors and innovative methods to evolve standards into contemporary gems. The interior is both fashionable and cozy with its vintage posters, cafe tables, and wooden bar.

Please describe Bar Deco as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

We like to describe DECO as a Local Cocktail Bar in the heart of Copenhagen where we want everybody to feel welcome no matter if they are looking for cocktails or a coffee. When you walk into DECO, you’ll find a stylish and intimate space filled with vintage posters. Our friendly and experienced team is here to make you feel welcome, offer personalized recommendations, and share stories, whether you’re looking for our special cocktails, premium spirits, or classic drinks.

How would you describe Bar Deco in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Cozy, Classy, Innovative

Other than Bar Deco, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

DECO is situated right in the old center of Copenhagen, which is very lively. In its surroundings, you will find everything from local pubs (called bodega in Denmark), student bars and shops to high-end hotels and fine dining restaurants.

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

We do not offer any happy hour. Fridays and Saturdays are the high points of our week whether you need a cocktail to start your evening or to finish up the night. If you want to enjoy a cocktail in a more relaxed atmosphere and have a chat with one of our bartenders, then we recommend stopping by between Sunday and Wednesday.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

We want all guests to feel welcome, and this is why we are able to serve a wide selection of classic cocktails as well as beers, wines and non-alcoholic options. Of course, our average patron goes regularly to cocktail bars and appreciates quality cocktails and fine spirits. We get a mix of Danes, expats and tourists which are visiting Copenhagen for its innovative food scene.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

Currently, our cocktail menu is titled “Re-imagine” which is a curious reinterpretation of iconic past and present classic cocktails. Our bartenders have introduced modern flavors and innovative methods to your favorite classics while staying true to their original, immutable identity. This menu is also, figuratively speaking, an open invitation to take a step into our kitchen and the world of modern bartending.

What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?

After more than 6 months spent on developing this menu, it is hard to pick a favorite! And we believe every guest will have a cocktail to their liking. However, we are particularly proud of our Whisky Highball with a homemade Pear Soda and Macallan 12YO Double Cask.

How much do drinks cost?

Signature Cocktails cost between 120 and 150 DKK ($17 – $21)

Is there anything to eat? If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?

Right now, we only offer a small selection of bar snacks that we soon plan on expanding.

What are the distinguishing features of Bar Deco?

Looking beyond our stylish and cozy interiors, our bar program focuses on quality and consistency. Your experience should always be the same no matter when you stop by DECO. For example, we blind tested as a team a large selection of spirits to select our well spirits. This attention to details goes not only for the cocktails but also for the glassware we use, the ice, our music selection…

Another feature that guests might not notice right away is our dedication to educating our staff (regular trainings, tests, masterclasses) and to offering the best work/life balance.

What’s that music we hear playing on the Bar Deco stereo?

Music is very important for us. As a matter of fact, our previous menu was inspired by music where our team picked some songs that inspired them to create cocktails. Our team is international and our selection of music reflects just that with funk, disco and hip-hop from all over the world.
