Torabhaig Cnoc Na Mòine Becomes Third Chapter In Legacy Series

Isle of Skye distillery Torabhaig has unveiled the Third Chapter in its Legacy Series, Cnoc Na Mòine

Torabhaig has unveiled the Third Chapter in its Legacy Series, Cnoc Na Mòine. The latest release from the Isle of Skye whisky makers charts the distillery’s journey to the creation of a 10-year-old expression.

Cnoc Na Mòine (meaning “hill of peat” in Gaelic) is the distillery’s first release that includes single malt matured in Sherry cask and showcases the impact the barrels have on the smoke and brine character of the Scotch.

On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of orange peel with a subtle peat smoke aroma giving way to vanilla and oak. The peat smoke returns on the palate leading to notes of pepper, balsamic acidity and gentle spice alongside touches of cedar and leather. The finish finds the sherry influence balancing with peat smoke and more spice.

“There is an intriguing complexity to peated whisky, an endless depth to explore,” says Torabhaig whisky maker Neil MacLeod Mathieson. “There are many faces and moods to peat, so a balance has to be found between strength and refinement, between elegance and robustness. Each expression in the Legacy Series captures our progress towards this vision and is a liquid snapshot of our whisky journey here on the Isle of Skye.

“This is the first expression where sherry casks have played a part in our journey as well. The way new flavors are revealed through time with different casks is such an exciting thing for a younger distillery to discover and highlights the magic of whisky-making that can’t quite be explained, although it can be bottled.”

Cnoc Na Mòine is the latest in The Torabhaig Legacy Series. In December 2020, the distillery launched Torabhaig 2017 – The Legacy Series, followed by Allt Gleann in May 2021. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
