Nail Your New York Film Festival Viewing Party By Pairing Flicks With These Campari Cocktails

New York FIlm Festival Campari Cocktails

For the second year in a row, Campari will be the exclusive spirits partner of the New York Film Festival (NYFF). Of course, things look a bit different this year as, due to the coronavirus, instead of packing theaters most people will be watching this year’s new releases from home.

In good news, you don’t even have to be in New York this year to attend the festival. Better yet, you’ll have the opportunity to check out the latest films from the likes of Pedro Almodóvar and Spike Lee while sipping on your favorite cocktail. And if you’re looking for some suggestions, here are three Campari cocktails to pair with three of the hottest films from the 2020 New York Film Festival.

The Human Voice, Dir: Pedro Almodóvar

Tilda Swanton Campari Red New York Film Festival Cocktails

Tilda Swinton swallows up the screen as a woman traumatized by the end of a relationship in Pedro Almodóvar’s new short film. An impeccably designed yet combustible adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s 1930 play The Human Voice, the film marks the iconic Spanish director’s English-language debut.

Drink Pairing: The Classic Negroni

  • 1 part (1 oz.) gin
  • 1 part (1 oz.) sweet vermouth
  • 1 part (1 oz.) Campari

Stir ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass (or ice-filled double rocks glass) and garnish with orange twist

David Byrne’s American Utopia, Dir: Spike Lee

Spike Lee’s film of David Byrne’s acclaimed Broadway show is an exhilarating record of a seismic theater event as well as a momentous work of cinema in its own right. Both joyous and politically engaged, it’s a reckoning of these dark times through music and togetherness, with a galvanizing rendition of Janelle Monáe’s “Hell You Talmbout” that’s destined to be one of the year’s most talked-about screen moments.

Drink Pairing: The Americano

  • 1 part (1 oz.) Campari
  • 1 part (1 oz.) sweet vermouth
  • Splash of soda

Pour all the ingredients directly into an old-fashioned glass, fill with ice cubes, add a splash of soda water, garnish with orange slice or lemon peel

The Truffle Hunters, Dir: Michael Dweck, Gregory Kershaw

This revelatory, earthy documentary immerses the viewer in the forests of Northern Italy where dogs, accompanied by their elderly and often irascible human owners of modest means, seek the precious white Alba truffle.

Drink Pairing: Negroni Sbagliato

  • 1 part (1 oz, 3cl) Campari
  • 1 part (1 oz, 3cl) Red Vermouth
  • 1 part (top) Sparkling Wine

Build in a double rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a slice of orange.
